Golf and Property in Spain

SPAIN is indeed a country with lots of contradictions. Located in Europe, Spain is an instant sight of Catholic cathedrals with Moorish inspirations. This is the result of a once-upon-a-time Roman rule followed by a Moorish conquest and the reconquering of Christian Spaniards of these edifices. When these Christian churches were converted into Islamic mosques during their time, they changed a few of the exteriors here and there and when the Christians regained them back, they retained the glory of Moorish architecture which is fantastic even by today’s standards. Another contrast that you can instantly feel in Spain upon disembarking is its food. Its food can understandably have three things in common – most of them are catch from the Mediterranean and they are influenced with native and Moorish spices. Thus, even halal food like lamb kebab are now fast becoming mainstream viand in a Spanish meal.

Spanish are also known for their beef tapas to be downed with sherry from Jerez. And the third contradiction that you can find in Spain is the mores of its people itself. People in Spain usually flock to Catholic churches during daytime Sundays but flee to nudist beaches for the rest of the day. Now, isn’t that contradictory? It is not just in offshore Ibiza that you will find great dance and techno music in the country, it can also be found in lots of beaches spread across the Mediterranean coastline. And no, you will never ever find a nudist in any Jersey or O.C. shore so spend your time in Spain really in quality.

One other feature of Spain that’s slowly building up steam in the tourist community is its array of high-end golf courses. People from all over western and northern Europe flock to this country during summertime to play golf. Spain is their version of the tropics, it’s got temperature as high as 22 degrees Celsius during the humid period. If you come from a tropical region like the Philippines, that may not be hot for you but for the Norwegians who have endured as low as 0 degree temperature, that’s a paradise already. Most often than not, beach resorts here have their own golf ranges and even offer a crash course in golfing aside from the usual amenities of spa and babysitting services. (Yes, they do have that one, too). And mind you, the instructors in these golf resorts are PGA-certified.

Once your vacation days are over, I’m pretty sure your golfing enjoyment here will also near its end. Don’t worry, there is something else you can do. Move all of your family here in Spain and continue golfing throughout your life. That’s not something feasible if you’re still 40 years old enjoying your career at its zenith back home. But if you’re 55 already, then retiring in Spain and buying a home inside a golf suburb may not be a bad idea at all. To have a maximum range of choices, you can always hire a competent Spanish lawyer and Spanish real property agent to guide you to the best golfing community in the city that you feel suits your idea of satisfied living.
